Increasing focus & wellbeing with meditation
Meditation was a word I used to roll my eyes at. I had no interest in it whatsoever and viewed it as something that would waste my time.
That view didn’t change for years, up until I went through a rough patch which involved a lot of strong emotions to process. Meditation was suggested to me, and for the first time I considered it.
There are a lot of resources to choose from when it comes to starting a meditation journey: teachers, apps, videos (channels on YouTube), books, blogs.
The benefits of meditation
I don’t consider myself a “hard core” practicer of meditation in that I meditate when I can and when I feel I need it & don’t beat myself up when I don’t. It can be every other day or once a week depending on the period of my life. Since I have been in confinement I have more down time, so I had been practicing almost everyday.
As I discovered the practice of meditation, I’ve seen the benefits of the breathing exercises to better separate and isolate distracting feelings as I am going by my day and also better understanding of my mind. The fact of meditating, allows you to take a pause to proactively & positively scope your emotions, leaving you more focused and calm afterwards.
It might sound counter intuitive but carving out the time to meditate for 10 to 30 minutes, actually creates a more productive day as it grows your ability to focus, to be less distracted, and grow your understanding of your mind making space for constructive thoughts
Guiding tracks
During this anxious period we are experiencing, it is especially comforting to take time for introspection, work through your thoughts and train your brain not to indulge in negative paths.
Any meditation that helps you with focusing on the instant and on what you can control, to work on surrendering and acceptance. Here’s some courses I recommend:
21 day Meditation Experience: Hope in Uncertain Times | Oprah & Deepak Free Meditation
The Life Coach School: Handling Chaos Series | Brooke Castillo
If you feel that’s daunting, just try sitting still for 10 minutes while focusing on your breath and on relaxing your whole body. Meditation doesn’t have to be complicated and it’s not a one size fits all. Go ahead and try & explore what works best for you.
Go for it!
Have you been meditating? Share below the paths that have been helpful to you. If you haven’t yet, now is you opportunity to try something new while learning about yourself and using a new tool to better navigate those uncertain times.
